We just have to wait and see

The ever changing situation in Bahrain makes reporting on it virtually impossible.

As soon as a snippet of information comes out regarding the current unrest in the area and is then subsequently reported, the whole situation could have changed.

This was highlighted over the course of Thursday and Friday when Formula 1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone appeared to be resigned to the cancellation of F1's season opener, then cautiously optimistic that it would go ahead and now back to taking a waiting and watching brief.

'We should wait and see what happens over the weekend,' Ecclestone said to the BBC. 'I don't know what has happened this afternoon because I've been travelling but from what I've been told it's a bit different to this morning because of this funeral that's gone on which is what you would expect I suppose.'

'I just think things have changed and that we should wait and see over the weekend exactly what changes there have been.'

Formula 1 teams are of course in Barcelona, the first day of testing got under way on Friday and there are probably cars flying around the track as I type for day two.

Last night the Formula 1 Teams Association (FOTA) met to discuss the current situation in Bahrain and possible contingency plans.

Top of the agenda was of course the race and following the meeting Red Bull team principal Christian Horner told the assembled press: 'It's obviously a really difficult situation in Bahrain, but we have complete trust in Bernie, FOM (Formula One Management) and the FIA to make the right decision. They will only send us there if it is safe.

'It would be a great shame to lose the race, but it's not the teams' decision - it's down to the promoter. Bernie and the FIA will have much more information than us and we will trust their decisions.'

If the race is cancelled as some expect, the test session in Bahrain will obviously also be shelved. F1 teams will then be deciding on what action they take on where they go next to complete pre season testing.
