'If It's F1, It's Vital'

Senna not under threat

Rumours in the paddock and the media that Bruno Senna might be fighting to keep hold of his seat with the Williams team have been denied.

The Brazilian driver and nephew of Formula One legend Aryton Senna joined the Williams team for 2012, replacing F1 veteran Rubens Barrichello.

A lot was expected of Bruno Senna after making the move to Williams, the former GP2 Series runner-up had previously only driven for Hispania and Renault [now Lotus], but the move to Williams was a chance to really show his talents.

But last weekend was a difficult weekend for Bruno, in qualifying he dropped out during the first session and he then had to retire from the race after Michael Schumacher's Mercedes rear ended him going into the first corner.

Williams team-mate Pastor Maldonado however enjoyed a weekend never to be forgotten. After the McLaren of Lewis Hamilton was disqualified from qualifying, Maldonado claimed his first pole position of his career and from the front of the grid, he drove the perfect race to claim the victory.

That performance, as well as the fact that test driver Valtteri Bottas has been impressing during Friday practice sessions, in Bruno Senna's car has led to rumours that Senna could be replaced by the teams test driver.

'We are not replacing anybody, We have contracts with two drivers, and we are supporting our drivers as much as we can and as well as we can. Williams board member Toto Wolff told Autosport Magazine.

'The decision to take on Bruno and Pastor was a very carefully taken one and we will push on - not do some knee-jerk exercise.

'With Valtteri, we are going through a development school and the decision to run him on Fridays was very carefully decided. We are not going to burn him up either by putting him in a situation that we think is not appropriate. So the rumours are rubbish.'
