'If It's F1, It's Vital'

The Alonso & Vettel debate

It sounds like something from a Fantasy Formula One game, placing Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel in identical Ferrari's and seeing who comes out on top.

But could it become reality in a few years time?

Rumours in the pit-lane sparked up a few weeks ago when it was reported that Sebastian Vettel had signed a pre-contract agreement to make the move from Red Bull to Ferrari in 2014.

The speculation was dismissed by those close to the German double world champion, but for some reason Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali and Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone seem intent on pouring fuel on the rumour, just days before a race weekend.

Is the timing significant? Well the interview actually took place in Canada but Ferrari have waited until now to publish the comments on their website for whatever reason.

So onto the interview and Stefano Domenicali is shown a mocked up image of Vettel wearing Ferrari race overalls.

'In life one should never say never!' the team boss replied, almost giving the nod to the interview to ask further questions, which he inevitably did.

So could the two co-exist in the same team? Alonso failed miserably and getting along with Lewis Hamilton while both were at McLaren, would we see the same problems at Ferrari with Vettel?

'I think they are both intelligent guys and they could easily coexist together.' he added.

Bernie Ecclestone, who was part of the same interview appeared to be all to happy to elaborate further adding: 'That wouldn't be a problem: both are drivers who are always looking for a new challenge and to be in the same team would be a new and big challenge,

'They would both think they can bear the other one, as they are sure of themselves and Stefano would do what was required to so that they were treated equally.
