'If It's F1, It's Vital'

Rumours are rumours says Alonso

The majority of the talk around Formula One this week has centred on who could become Fernando Alonso's team-mate at Ferrari for next season.

A whole host of drivers have been linked with taking Felipe Massa's seat for the 2013 season, but this week the paddock has become excited about the prospect of Sebastian Vettel jumping from Red Bull to Ferrari.

The double F1 World Champion still has a long contract with Red Bull, but speculation has linked him to signing a pre-contract agreement with Ferrari for 2014.

That rumour had been quickly dismissed a few weeks ago, but for some reason Ferrari decided to publish an interview this week with Ferrari boss Stefano Domenicali and F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone about the possibility of it becoming a reality.

That, quite obviously, stirred all the speculation back up again, putting Fernando Alonso right in the middle of a media frenzy.

'Rumours with Ferrari are always the same, When I won the 2005 championship with Renault I was linked to Ferrari immediately and I arrived in 2010, so if Seb is linked now maybe he arrives in five years' time!' Alonso told Autosport Magazine on his arrival at the Valencia track on Thursday.

'Every time is the same with Ferrari: whatever team-mate comes in the future will be welcome, he will be part of the team and part of Ferrari. Whatever team-mate comes in the future it will not be a problem and we will try to work as we are doing now with Felipe.'

With Fernando Alonso signed to Ferrari until the end of 2016, it isn't a surprise to find out that the Spaniard has a say over who he will be working alongside in the future.

Ferrari have a history of building a team around their number one driver and right now, that is the former two time F1 champion.

So after such a public falling out with McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton when the two partnered each other in 2007, would Alonso have an issue with Hamilton moving to Ferrari? 'no problem' he said, but then again, he would do wouldn't he?
