Williams hope for strong Silverstone showing

The Williams team are hopeful that their excellent 2012 form can continue this weekend for their home race, the British Grand Prix.

The team have brought a new aero package to Silverstone, which should work as a good upgrade for the team, whilst the characteristics of the Silverstone circuit have similarities to Barcelona, where Pastor Maldonado won his first Formula Grand Prix, giving Williams their first win for eight years.

Those two factors indicate that Williams could well prove to be strong this weekend, much to the delight of their chief operations engineer, assuming of course that drivers Bruno Senna and Maldonado, can avoid incident, something that neither driver has achieved on a regular basis.

'Following our strong showing in Valencia, which unfortunately ultimately ended in disappointment, we head to our home grand prix with high hopes, Pirelli bring their hard and soft tyres to this race, which is the same pairing that we used successfully in Barcelona. Mark Gillan told Autosport Magazine.

'We will also bring an updated aerodynamic package to the event which is imperative given the importance of aerodynamic efficiency around this track and how tight the grid is at present.

But whilst Williams remain hopeful, the great British weather might make things a little less predictable once the action on the track begins.

He continued: 'The long range forecast doesn't look particularly promising, predicting a reasonable chance of rain and strong winds throughout the weekend, which could lead to an eventful qualifying and race.'
