'If It's F1, It's Vital'

Barrichello eyes F1 return

Rubens Barrichello has not given up hope of returning to Formula One.

The 40-year-old Brazilian lost his seat with the Williams team this season to compatriot Bruno Senna.

Having held strong hopes of continuing in the sport into his twentieth season, he made the move to the American racing series Indy Car.

But it's clear where he would much rather be and that's back in Formula One and the KV Racing Technology driver still thinks he can add to his 322 F1 career starts.

'I think there is still a way back, My heart bleeds that I cannot be there.' Barrichello told Auto Moto und Sport as quoted by Sky Sports.

The veteran driver still feels that he has a lot to offer the sport and believes that he would have had a good 2012 season with Williams if he had been selected.

Not only does he believe he would have performed well, but he also believes that either Pastor Maldonado or Bruno Senna would have benefited from having his experience and knowledge in the paddock.

'I think it's a shame for Williams because I think would have had a really big year. Not just for me, also for the team. Williams would have benefitted from me.

'I would have been a good team-mate as a coach for Senna, Bottas or Maldonado. Next to me they would have gone much better than they can now.

'Look at Maldonado. He had few accidents last year than this season. Pastor is super-fast and with me at his side he would've been a lot more controlled.

Barrichello's final season in Formula One came behind the wheel of the ill-conceived Williams FW33 powered by Cosworth.

Barrichello scored just four points throughout the entire season, finishing in the top ten on just two occasions. Team-mate Maldonado finished in the points once scoring one point, it was the worst season the team have endured since they entered the sport in 1977.

This seasons FW34 model powered by Renault is a much better car and has seen Maldonado and new team-mate Bruno Senna score 53 points and stand seventh in the constructors championship.

But the Brazilian insists that the team are now under performing and should be looking to compete with the likes of Lotus, Mercedes and Sauber for a place amongst the top four.

'Okay so they have more points to his tally than last year but with this car we would have been in the top third.' Barrichello concluded.

Rubin well may be right about his posative influence if he had stayed with Williams, but his time in F1 is over and he should enjoy Indy car while it lasts.
