'If It's F1, It's Vital'

Lotus can now win races

Over the first half of the season, one team flattered to deceive.

While McLaren, Ferrari, Red Bull, Mercedes and Williams all got their cars across the finish line in first place and milked the applause on top of the top step of the podium, Lotus had to watch on.

Team-mates Kimi Raikkonen and Romain Grosjean have both stood on the podium together in Bahrain and Hungary, whilst in Spain, Canada, Valencia and Germany one or the other have tasted champagne after a second or third place finish.

Many in the paddock believe that Lotus should have converted at least one of those performances into a race victory and the team have been pushing to take a race win.

When Formula One returns from its summer break in Belgium, the Lotus cars will be racing with a new upgrade package, which includes their own double DRS system.

Unlike the Mercedes system which stalls the front-wing when the DRS button has been activated to open the slot in the rear-wing, the Lotus design is believed to actually gain a benefit when the rear wing is closed rather than open. Which could prove to give a big performance gain at the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa.

'If it gives me an advantage I'm certainly looking forward to driving with it! I'm sure it will be a good thing, especially if we have it working well.

'Hopefully it gives us an advantage and the race win that we want.'
Grosjean told Sky Sports.

'Hopefully we'll have everything we need to win races. I'm looking forward to it as it's a special track; it's Spa and also I won the GP2 Series title there last year. It'll be good to be back there again.'

While double-DRS systems are banned from 2013, McLaren are also thought to be in the process of developing their own system.
