Kovalainen future remains uncertain

Heikki Kovalainen's future at Caterham remains uncertain with no news on the teams driver line-up for 2013.

Kovalainen's current three-year-deal with the team ends at the end of the season.

The knock on effect of Timo Glock's 12th place finish in Singapore for Marussia, could be a key factor in Caterham team principal Tony Fernandes decision on whether to stick with Kovalainen or change the route his team will take for the 2013 Formula One World Championship.

That result currently stands Marussia in tenth place in the F1 Constructors' standings, one place ahead of Caterham.

The financial rewards for that one place are big and with that result unlikely to be beaten by Caterham, the team are considering running with two pay drivers for next season.

Caterham test driver Giedo van der Garde and Marussia driver Charles Pic could be two options, for Caterham if they opt for that route.

'At the moment there is no movement, I'm waiting on what Tony wants to do, He has different options and has to decide what route he wants to take with drivers. Kovalainen told Autosport Magazine.

The fact is, I don't bring money and I get paid. Whether that's the deciding factor or not, I don't know.

'We still have a good relationship. I've been with him for a long time already and I trust him 100 per cent. But at the same time, I need to keep my eyes open in case he wants to go the other way.'

Kovalainen's options on the Formula One grid appear limited, but with a vast amount of experience. Surely Heikki is just too good to be without a drive next season?
