FIA tweak 2013 calendar

The FIA have tweaked the schedule for the 2013 Formula One World Championship.

The World Motor Sport Council met in Istanbul, Turkey on Wednesday and it was decided that the German Grand Prix would be moved forward a week to the weekend of July 7th.

This move opens up the weekend of July 21st, which has been pencilled in as reserved for another possible Grand Prix in Europe.

If this happens it will bring the calendar of races back up to 20 following the cancellation of the New York/New Jersey race which will now not take place until 2014.

It has been widely reported that one possible destination for this additional European race, could be the Turkish Grand Prix which disappeared from the calendar in 2012 for financial reasons.

One problem regarding the possible return of the Turkish event again would be money. The race will receive no government backing, which will mean that a private backer would be required.

Other possibilities could be a French Grand Prix or an Austrian Grand Prix.

Austria's A1-Ring, incidentally owned by Red Bull, hasn't hosted Formula One since 2003 but has been refurbished.

Whilst France haven't hosted a race since 2008, Magny-Cours or Paul Ricard could be possible destinations.

There could also be another tweak to the calendar as the United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of The Americas in Texas has been scheduled for the same day as University of Texas host Oklahoma State in a College American Football game.

That problem might sound trivial, but the game is expected to have an attendance of well over 100,000 which could cause a whole host of logistical problems with this years race hosting a crowd of 117,000.
