Marussia boss hits back

Team boss of the Marussia Graeme Lowdon has hit out at critics for the so-called under achievement of his and Caterham's performances.

The apparent demise of the HRT team has highlighted the three newbie's performances since they entered Formula One in 2010.

All three have failed to score a Formula One World Championship point over their first three seasons in the sport, whilst all have gone through some kind of change of ownership, or name change, with Hispania evolving into HRT, Lotus into Caterham and Virgin into Marussia.

That in itself has given the impression that the three newbie teams have struggled to settle in Formula One, on a financial and a competitive stand point.

With HRT not paying their 2013 entrance fee and going into liquidation, the recent news hasn't done much to dispel the myth.

Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone has hardly been sympathetic to the cause either, in the past he has said the teams are 'cripples' in comparison to the more established teams, whilst also claiming that he never wanted the new teams in the sport in the first place.

A harsh assessment from the man at the top, but Marussia team boss Graeme Lowdon has defended his and Caterham's position at the back of grid.

'We haven't even scored a point in the last three years, but I don't think that's a bad thing, This is the pinnacle of the industry that we're in. he told Autosport Magazine.

'If you were to simply come into it and dominate, then I think it would be a bad reflection on the sport.'

That said, he also commented on Formula One's need to cut costs in order to help the slower teams close the gap on the more established teams in Formula One.

'I think the sport does need to address a lot of issues with costs and primarily to make the entertainment value higher, because that's really what helps all of us,'
