'If It's F1, It's Vital'
May deadline for Bahrain
The organisers of the Bahrain Grand Prix have been given a deadline of May 1st by the FIA World Motor Sport Council.
By that date, the organisers will have to decide if they wish for the event to be rescheduled into the 2011 Formula One calendar.
The decision (well really a lack of decision), was made at the FIA meeting in Paris yesterday. The deadline gives the event organisers a bit of a buffer before committing one way or the other, however how Bahrain could be certain that there will be no further political trouble in the region before that date is unclear.
What is also unclear is when the event could be staged.
The best possible option remains to be after the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, for logistical reasons alone it makes the most sense, but it could impact on the Brazilian Grand Prix, which may have to be pushed back into December.
Rescheduling the season is complex, however staging the event is worth £25million for Formula One Management, so just as Formula 1 chief Bernie Ecclestone said last week: if there is [peace in Bahrain], we will find a way.
