Kubica recovery will be long

Renault team doctor Dr Riccardo Ceccarelli would not be drawn on the length of time expected for Robert Kubica to recover from his rally crash.

The team doctor was speaking from the teams testing session in Barcelona, where the press were obviously keen to discover how Kubica is recovering after suffering a partially severed right hand and fractures in his right leg and arm, after crashing his Skoda Fabia during the opening stage of the Ronde di Andora rally in Italy.

'This is obviously a question we cannot answer. No one can answer when or how, because we can only say that the surgeons did a great job,' Renault team doctor Riccardo Ceccareli told the press on Thursday.

'What we can say - this year, next year or three years? It makes no sense in this moment. I can only tell what I know.

'And what I told you is exactly what we know - he has made a good job, he is reacting well and it will take time, a long time. After that, honestly, I am not a magician so honestly I cannot say anything more than this.'

The doctor went on to give an update on his condition and so far, everything has been positive. But recovery time is expected to be long.

Kubica is now moving his fingers and wrist following the surgery and it is unlikely that he will have to undergo any further operations.

Kubica remains in Pietra Ligure where he will continue his rehabilitation. The centre has surgeons and physiotherapists who specialise in the type of injuries that Kubica has suffered and they will continue to work with him throughout his recovery.
