2013 Mon GP - Weekend recap - Webber

Mark Webber was able to get the most out of his Red Bull around the streets of Monaco.

The Red Bull team might have enjoyed the majority of its success due to the aerodynamic wizardry of Adrian Newey, but that hasn't stopped Red Bull enjoying success around the tight twisty streets of Monte Carlo.

Mark Webber has of course won twice here, sandwiched either side of a Sebatian Vettel win.

Ahead of the Grand Prix this year though Red Bull were not fancied to do well and Webber went on to qualify in 4th place after rain had complicated the first two stages of qualifying.

ďYeah Iím pretty happy with that. Itís very easy to be towards the back when you have a disruptive session with those conditions, but we managed to survive all the tricky sections and put together a reasonably tidy effort. You can always look at timings later and think you could have done things differently, but in the heat of the moment you make the decision as to what you think is right and overall it wasnít too bad. The conditions are changing and the tyres are tricky, so starting on the second row here is not bad. Itís a long race and a lot of strategy can unfold, so weíll see what we can do from there.Ē he told formula1.com.

The race got underway with no changes at the front with Rosberg leading from team-mate Hamilton, with Vettel third and Webber fourth.

The first safety car period was all Red Bull needed to get past the Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton. With the Brit being delayed by having his team-mate also stop for tyres immediately in front of him the delay enabled both Sebastian Vettel to slip by into second and for Webber to slide his way into a podium position.

That one moment in the Grand Prix was enough to decide the podium positions.

ďFirst of all congratulations to Nico, itís a very special place to win here and he had a seamless weekend; thatís what you need to do here. Even though he started in the lead, you still have to pull it off so well done to him. For us, we knew we were a little bit against it starting on the second row, but I got an absolutely incredible start and itís sodís law that itís the shortest run into the first corner here. Seb and I had nowhere to go, so we were lifting while Nico and Lewis looked like they had tricky ones. We will save some of those starts for future reference! Then after that it was basically about saving the tyres and making the one-stop work for us. It was predictable that if the race was going to stack up, then the two-stop was not really an option as you could have come back into traffic. We had to go pretty long and all the drivers were nursing the tyres Ė it was nice to get Lewis on the stops.Ē
