Mercedes on a journey with Hamilton

Mercedes team principal Ross Brawn believes the Mercedes team are on a journey with driver Lewis Hamilton.

The 2008 Formula One World Champion won his first race with Mercedes in Hungary a milestone moment both for the team and Hamilton after leaving McLaren for Mercedes at the end of last season.

The 2013 Mercedes has consistently proven itself to be the fastest car on the grid in Formula One this year, between Hamilton and team-mate Nico Rosberg the W04 has started from pole position seven times during the opening ten rounds of the Formula One World Championship season.

Nico Rosberg has secured pole position three times this season, whilst Hamilton secured his first pole in China, before taking pole over the last three consecutive Grand Prix's.

Having watched Rosberg win at both Monaco and Silverstone, Hamilton picked up his first win in Hungary and the team are certainly enjoying the current season.

But just where will this season take Mercedes? With Lewis Hamilton now officially settled in at Mercedes, the new Pirelli tyres appearing to suite the Mercedes better and new upgrades expected. Just what can Mercedes do in 2013?

In the Formula One drivers World Championship Lewis Hamilton is currently fourth in the standings, 48 points behind championship leader Sebastian Vettel, while Rosberg is sixth a further 40 points behind.

In the Formula One constructors World Championship Mercedes are second, 69 points behind Red Bull.

“The team has great spirit at the moment, I know the things that are coming through on the technical front and our hit rate has been pretty good on new technical innovations - the things that we’ve brought to the track have generally worked.' Mercedes team boss Ross Brawn said in an interview posted on Mercedes' official site as quoted by formula1.com.

“We’ve got a few things coming up in the next few races which could give us that extra impetus, that extra momentum, to take us through the second half of the year.”

Speaking about Hamilton's recent break through he added: “I think when a driver of Lewis’s calibre joins a team, there’s obviously massive expectation, but every driver takes a while to settle in, to understand all the nuances of the team, to understand how to work with the engineers and how to press the right buttons - and I mean in the team, not just on the steering wheel.

“It’s taken (him) a little while but I see some great signs, particularly in the last few races which have been very, very good. It’s another thing that’s picking up momentum and moving in the right direction. We honestly don’t know where the limit is; we’re on a journey here with Lewis and we don’t know where the limits are.”
