Wolff to drive two practice sessions

Susie Wolff will make a little bit of history this season.

The 31-year-old Scottish driver will become only the second British woman to take part in a Formula One Grand Prix weekend following in the footsteps of Divina Galica in 1976/78 and the first woman to be involved in Formula One since Italian Giovanna Amati in 1992.

Williams have confirmed that she will get behind the wheel for two practice sessions during the forthcoming Formula One World Championship season, with the most likely being the British and German Grands Prix.

'I'm not too worried about being in the spotlight or the attention it brings - I just focus on the job,

'I always said that the minute I'd joined Williams F1 and was able to make the step-up to Formula 1 that it's about doing a good job - it's about proving yourself each step of the way.'
' Wolff said to Sky Sports.

'If my chance comes then brilliant - I'm going to take it with both hands. But if it doesn't then I'm going to at least hope I've paved the way for more women to try and for more women to realise that Formula 1 isn't just for men,'

Only three women have raced in Grand Prix racing, although officially only Maria Teresa de Filippis and Lella Lombardi count as Desire Wilson's race in South Africa was not included in the championship in 1981.

Lella Lombardi earned half a championship point in 1975 when she finished sixth in a shortened Spanish Grand Prix.

In more recent years, as well as Susie Wolff's involvement at Williams the late María de Villota had completed test sessions for Marussia.

Sauber have also recently named Simona De Silvestro as their 'affiliated' driver for the coming season, with hopes that she might make the grid by 2015.
