Massa quickest at Silverstone test

Williams continued to show how good their car is around the Silverstone track with Felipe Massa setting the fastest time in testing.

All of the Formula One teams are completing an in-season test session at Silverstone this week, with running yesterday and today.

Felipe Massa completed the session for Williams completing 42 laps, while Daniel Ricciardo set the second fastest timed lap during his 71 laps for Red Bull Racing.

“The car was very competitive during the race so today we have built on a very good platform, The test today was experimenting with some parts for future races as well as a little bit for next year.

“The car felt really good, so we know we will go to Hockenheim with a good car. The programme went to plan today and we didn't have any rain so it was a very productive day.”
Massa told formula1.com.

Formula One World Championship leader Nico Rosberg completed 89 laps for Mercedes setting the third fastest time of the day. He will hand over the Mercedes to team-mate Lewis Hamilton for Wednesday's running.

“It's so valuable to do these test days; over a race weekend it's rare to get two runs in the day that are the same as tyres are getting old and conditions change but here we can always use new tyres, so we can really do some setup work that we don't normally get to do,

“It was very useful and we learned a lot today. We will be able to use this information going into the next race.”
Rosberg said.

Adrian Sutil, Jules Bianchi, Sergio Perez, Jean-Eric Vergne and Pastor Maldonado also completed solid runs for Sauber, Marussia, Force India, Toro Rosso and Lotus.

For McLaren young driver Stoffel Vandoorne completed 71 laps setting the sixth fastest time of the day, whilst Pedro de la Rosa replaced the injured Kimi Raikkonen for Ferrari.

Will Stevens completed 95 laps for Caterham.

10. Pedro de la Rosa, Ferrari, 1m 37.988s, 49 laps

11. Will Stevens, Caterham, 1m 40.627s, 95 laps
