'If It's F1, It's Vital'

Rosberg refuses to comment

Nico Rosberg has refused to comment on the accusations that team-mate Lewis Hamilton has made against him.

The feuding Mercedes team-mates came together on the track in Belgium. Whilst the duo were first and second in the Grand Prix.

Hamilton was leading after taking the lead from pole sitter Nico Rosberg.

But on the second lap, Rosberg went for a manoeuvre that was never going to happen and the result was Rosberg losing his front wing on the rear left tyre of Hamilton causing an inevitable puncture which all but ended Hamilton's race.

Rosberg was able to recover from the front wing damage to finish second, securing 18 F1 world championship points against his rival.

After the race the Mercedes team were clearly livid with both the situation and Rosberg, but a post-race debrief only made matters worse, with Hamilton left 'gobsmacked'.

“We just had a meeting about it and he basically said he did it on purpose. He said he did it on purpose. He said he could have avoided it, He basically said ‘I did it to prove a point’.

“You don’t have to just rely on me, go and ask Toto [Wolff] or Paddy [Lowe] who are not happy with him as well.”
Hamilton told the media on Sunday.

A Mercedes spokesperson confirmed that Hamilton's account of the meeting was 'broadly accurate'.

Whilst Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff did his best to play down reports of causing a crash deliberately he did admit that Rosberg confessed to deliberately failing to avoid a collision.

'he could have avoided crashing but didn’t [in order to] make a point.” he told Sky Sports.

Rosberg has now spoken about the incident for the first time, but has refused to discuss it further.

“I’ve been told what Lewis has said to the press, He has stated his version of events and all I can say is that my view of events is very different but it’s better if l don’t give all the details of my opinion and I hope you can respect that. I’d prefer to keep it internal.' Rosberg told the media.
