Speculation bores Vettel

Fernando Alonso has distanced himself from a return to McLaren, whilst Sebastian Vettel has refused to comment.

The two drivers, with six Formula One titles between them appear to be McLaren's main targets in the driver market, leaving current McLaren driver and 2009 Formula One World Champion Jenson Button in limbo.

The 34-year-old is in the final year of his current contract with McLaren and the Brit wants to stay with the team for the foreseeable future.

However it would seem McLaren have other ideas and are unwilling to confirm Button's future with the team until they have concluded current discussions with Ferrari's Fernando Alonso and Red Bull Racing's Sebastian Vettel.

McLaren have rumoured to have been in talks with the Spaniard for well over a year and have been trying to get the double F1 World Champion to leave Ferrari and return to McLaren, although Alonso has stated that he will remain with Ferrari.

With McLaren to switch from Mercedes to Honda power next season, McLaren appear to want to sign a marquee driver, with the unfashionable Jenson Button not really fitting the bill.

With the current fall-out between Mercedes two drivers, Lewis Hamilton has also been linked with a sensational future return to McLaren, but he is contracted until 2016 at Mercedes and has also claimed that he wants to stay with the team.

That has left the media's attentions at least on Sebastian Vettel, with some speculating that he had already signed for McLaren.

Vettel denied that he had already signed a deal, even joking about the reported figures, before refusing to comment on whether he would leave Red Bull Racing.

“There’s been a lot of talk, In Spa I heard on the Thursday that I’ve signed for 150 million dollars for three years [with McLaren].

“I was asking where the pen was but no one came back to me,”
he joked with the media on Thursday in Monza, before contradicting himself somewhat.

He first appeared to admit that talks may have taken place, but then stated he wasn't interested in a move from Red Bull.

'I think it is normal that you have a lot of talks but it doesn't change anything that we do on a normal or regular day basis.'

'My situation hasn't changed, I'm happy where I am. But you never know what's happening in the future. Right now I don't feel the need to do something different. So I think in the case [speculation] is fairly boring.'
