We controlled the race says Red Bull

Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel took a second consecutive win in Malaysia to start the defence of his Formula One crown with a perfect start to 2011.

It might not have been quite as dominant as it was in Australia, but the result was really never in doubt for the German driver.

'We could control it, but it was never easy. When Jenson was behind me I could control the gap.' Vettel told the press.

Crucially for Red Bull, they ran KERS for the first time in Malaysia this weekend and it played a major part in the result of the race as it enable Vettel to remain in first place after the first corner and go on to control the race.

But as predicted Red Bull did suffer issues with their device, team-mate Mark Webber was unable to run with KERS throughout the race while Vettel's device was hit and miss.

'It was a little bit on-off during the race. Two weeks ago we never raced it at all. Today if I didn't have it at the start the race would never have unfolded as it did. Then we had a problem and had to turn it off, but it came back on again.' the world champion added.

But the KERS device was the only real issue he had to deal with throughout the day, McLaren might be threatening to take the battle to Red Bull, but today wasn't their day as Vettel stormed to 50 points with a perfect record, leaving Jenson Button second in the championship 24 points behind on 26.

Red Bull team boss Christian Horner told the press after the race: 'I think Sebastian was coolest guy out there - his composure, the way he controlled the race, the way he looked after his tyres. We had options to do three or four stops, and he gave us those options - it was a really mature drive.'

'We forget he's just 23 years old - he can only just rent a hire car! He's gaining more experience and just continues to get better.'

While Vettel might be getting better, the gap between Red Bull and McLaren is noticeably getting smaller and if Red Bull continue to have issues with their KERS in a weeks time in China, then Vettel may well be pushed off the top step of the podium.
