Rosberg not giving up on title quest

Lewis Hamilton served up another blow to the morale of Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg in Austin, Texas.

After winning the battle for pole position on Saturday, Rosberg's confidence was up.

Non executive chairman Niki Lauda, suggested before the race that he thought it was a race for Rosberg to hold an advantage over Hamilton.

But it was not to be, with Hamilton firstly hunting down Rosberg, then over-taking him before maintaining a gap of three-seconds to his team-mate.

'It was a tough day for me and it feels horrible to finish second after starting from pole. Rosberg told formula1.com.

'The conditions were very different compared to yesterday and it took me too long to find my rhythm at the beginning. In Formula One it is all about adapting quickly, but it just took me too long. Only 10 laps after Lewis passed me, I got it right and was able to push much more. Lewis just did a better job today, so congratulations to him.

The saving grace for Nico Rosberg in this seasons Formula One World Championship season are the double points that are available in Abu Dhabi.

With two races of the season remaining Nico Rosberg is 24 points behind Lewis Hamilton going into Brazil.

In any other season, past and probably in the future, this would mean that Hamilton would merely have had to finish in the top ten to clinch the Formula One title in Brazil on Sunday.

That would have given him a 25 point lead going into the final race of the season but due to winning ten races this season in comparison to Rosberg's four, Hamilton would take the championship on race wins.

But this season, with 50 points available for the race winner in Abu Dhabi, even an eleventh victory of the season for Hamilton and a retirement for Rosberg would still give the German a chance in the season finale.

'It's getting tougher but there is still a chance for the title and everything can happen. I'm still going to be pushing flat out just as I always have. I never give up.' Rosberg said.
