Red Bull still learning about KERS

Red Bull driver Mark Webber is hoping that he will be able to receive the benefit of KERS in China.

During the opening two rounds of the 2011 Formula One World championship Mark Webber's Red Bull has not ran its KERS device during the race.

In Australia this was a pre-race plan decided after Friday's practice sessions. Neither Red Bull ran KERS in either qualifying or the race.

Webber struggled for pace, while team-mate Sebastian Vettel stormed to the race win.

In Malaysia, the luck was again against the Australian, with his KERS failing on the warm-up lap.

We are still learning a lot about [KERS]. The engineers have carried out a huge amount of work over the last few days to prepare for this event to give it the maximum chance, just as we did in Malaysia. Obviously I didn’t get the maximum out of it, but every time we run it we learn more. Mark Webber told formula1.com.

With China's track lay-out having a long straight after turn 13, the combination of DRS and KERS could create some good overtaking opportunities under breaking at turn 14.

Webber continued: 'You need [KERS] everywhere you go. It is essential everywhere there is a long straight - like here [in China]. And if you don’t have it, then for sure that is not a positive thing for you. So we are really pushing very hard to have it on the car.'
