'If It's F1, It's Vital'

Mateschitz pleased with Red Bull & Toro Rosso

The boss of Red Bull Dietrich Mateschitz was pleased with what he saw of both his teams in Jerez.

Mateschitz enjoyed one of the four days during the winter test at the Spanish track having meetings with the drivers and team chiefs at both Red Bull Racing and sister team Toro Rosso.

He believes that whilst Mercedes remain the team to beat he thinks that Red Bull Racing can cut the gap to the all conquering German outfit in 2015.

Whilst the pairing of rookies Carlos Sainz Jr and Max Verstappen looks an exciting prospect for Toro Rosso.

'Mercedes are still in front and it looks like there will be no change to their dominance, If Renault can reduce the gap to 40 or 50bhp then we should be in a good position to charge, provided we have a good car again. But I do not doubt this, To reduce the gap would be a success already.' he told Autosport Magazine.

He continued: 'We have two excellent young drivers there [at Toro Rosso]. The aim has not changed, Toro Rosso is a learning school for young talents, I share the opinion of Franz [Tost, Toro Rosso team principal] that Toro Rosso should be able to contest for fifth in the constructors' rankings.'

Toro Rosso finished the 2014 Formula One World Constructors Championship in seventh place.

They finished ahead of Caterham, Sauber, Marussia and Lotus. But finished 125 points behind Force India.

With Force India's 2015 car behind schedule in development, the prospect of leap frogging them looks hopeful for Toro Rosso.

However with Lotus's switch from Renault to Mercedes power they should be an entirely different proposition this season so a sixth place finish for Toro Rosso looks ambitious at this stage.
