Vital talking points: Aus GP - Hamilton dominance

The new 2015 Formula One World Championship kicked off in Australia over the weekend.

It was very much a case of continue where you ended 2014 for both Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton.

Nico Rosberg may well have enjoyed the early running on Friday, but once times became important two-time F1 title holder Hamilton returned to the top of the timesheets to blow his team-mate away for pole position.

In the race Rosberg couldn't get near Hamilton, the Brit just keeping a safe enough distance to dictate the race without putting too much strain on his Mercedes AMG car and the new Pirelli tyres.

Hamilton took the chequered flag first for the seventh time in eight races.

I didn't need any more confidence but it was reassuring for my method of getting my head in the right place. I cant tell you how difficult a year it has been to this point so to come here with a fresh mind and execute it like that, Im really happy, Hamilton told Sky Sports.

It was a hard race. I wasnt struggling for pace. If I needed it, l had it.

The victory was Hamilton's 34th of his career, putting him 2 clear of Fernando Alonso and only 5 behind four-time Formula One World Champion Sebastian Vettel.

With Mercedes dominance set to continue throughout 2015 it's looking increasingly likely that not only will Hamilton end the season ahead of Vettel in the all-time rankings, he could well become the third most successful driver in history ahead of his idol Ayrton Senna who holds 41 Grand Prix victories.
