Supersoft tyre to make debut in Monaco

After the widely regarded success of the new Pirelli tyres in Australia, Malaysia and China, Pirelli have announced which tyre compounds will be available in Turkey, Spain and Monaco.

Keen watchers of F1 will have noticed that in the opening three rounds of the championship, teams used the hard compound as the prime tyre, which had silver markings, while the soft tyre was used as the option, which had yellow markings, with a solid white stripe in China.

For the Turkish Grand Prix in Istanbul and the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona, these compounds will remain the same, however Pirelli hope that new markings on their PZero tyres will help spectators work out which compound every driver is using during the race a little easier.

“We’ve considered carefully all the circuit characteristics in order to help provide races as exciting as all the Grands Prix we have seen so far this year,” Pirelli’s motorsport director Paul Hembery told formula1.com.

For the Monaco Grand Prix in Monte Carlo, Formula One teams will get to use a new compound for the first time, the yellow marked soft tyre will become the teams prime compound for this race, while the red marked super-soft compound will be used as the option tyre.

Hembery added: “We’re very much looking forward to Monaco in particular, where we will see the supersoft tyre in action for the first time. It’s quite a different tyre to the rest of the range and should be very effective around the streets of Monte Carlo.”

Lets hope the tyres continue to throw up unpredictable Grand Prix's with teams using different strategies just like we had in China!

Although if the tyre can help someone driver from 18th to 3rd in Monaco then those tyres will be very special.
