Abu Dhabi set to make changes

Abu Dhabi is set to make a few changes to its track layout before F1 returns in November.

Abu Dhabi Grand Prix organisers plan to make a few alterations to the Yas Marina circuit in the hopes of improving the spectacle of the event by increasing chances for over taking.

The news is expected to please drivers and fans alike following the 2010 race offering little in the way of on track overtaking manoeuvres.

'We're very happy to hear that Abu Dhabi, after building a very good track, is open to make further changes in order to see if we can find some guidelines for the future that may improve the overtaking situation. So, I think it's a good step in the right direction, to see what will be done, what effect it will have.

F1 is currently very keen to improve the on the track action, with several regulations being added for the 2011 season to improve the racing, with new tyre compounds, KERS and DRS all having an impact.

'if you look at this year's competition in general, it does offer a lot more overtaking possibilities. I think that in that respect, in terms of spectacle and interest in the sport, it has risen extremely.' Former seven-time F1 World champion Michael Schumacher told Autosport Magazine.

Track alterations are yet to be finalised but Autosport believe the three main alterations will include:

* Widening the track around the chicane at Turn 5/6 and the entry to the turn 7 hairpin, this will allow drivers to take different lines into the corners, creating opportunities to pass.

* The exit of the chicane at turn 9 will be turned into a banked corner, this will alter the line out of the turn so that driver could make an overtaking manoeuvre around the outside of the turn.

* The previously slow 13 and 14 turns will be made into one sweeping corner thus improving the flow of the track towards the end of the lap.
