'If It's F1, It's Vital'

Bahrain deadline could be extended

Organisers of the Bahrain Grand Prix could be set to see the deadline on a decision to host the event extended.

Bahrain was set to be the opening round of this seasons Formula One World championship, until political unrest in the country meant that the race had to be postponed.

Everyone involved in F1 agreed it was the correct decision, but since the announcement in February Formula One Management and the FIA have planned to rearrange the race back into the F1 calendar for 2011.

A decision on whether a rescheduled race was possible was set to be made this weekend on May 1st, but Bernie has hinted that a final decision could be more likely in June.

'We need to wait a little bit to see how progress is made. I suppose we'd be safe by early June or something like that.' Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone told Reuters.

'Things can change in a couple of weeks... so you don't know, all of a sudden everything might be peaceful in a month's time and they are happy to run the event and so we are happy to be there.'

This season was set to be the biggest F1 calendar in the sports history with 20 races scheduled and if the Bahrain race can be added back into the schedule it is likely to be the penultimate race of the season, after the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and before the Brazilian Grand Prix.

Be nice if they could fit it in mid season after that too many issues would be affected by it and those struggling to stay on top may not be all that happy.
