No one can sit still in F1

While you might have thought things have gone quiet over the past couple of weeks with no action on the track, the Formula One teams have been busy preparing for the Round 4 in Turkey.

With the entertaining Chinese Grand Prix giving us so many twists and turns, we were probably all in need of catching our breath.

But the teams certainly will not have just been sitting back and waiting for the next race, especially not McLaren who were on the top spot of the podium with Lewis Hamilton in China.

“Winning in China was a fantastic reward for all the hard effort that’s been undertaken both at the racetrack and the McLaren Technology Centre to turn MP4-26 into a race winner. We’re excited and encouraged by the pace and consistency that both drivers have shown in the opening three flyaway races, but the return to Europe brings fresh challenges. We’re under no illusions that we need to improve our qualifying and race pace if we are to remain a threat at the front. Additionally, many teams will be readying significant upgrade packages for the Turkish Grand Prix; nobody can afford to sit still.' McLaren team principal Martin Whitmarsh told formula1.com.

We've still got another week to wait until we get more track action, with the first practice session in Istanbul taking place on Friday May 6th.

“For this race, we’ll be evaluating a number of small modifications - which include some aerodynamic refinements to the bodywork - during Friday practice. Our pace of development is what can win us this championship, and we go into Turkey determined to ensure our upgrades deliver practical gains and are able to confer a useful margin to both drivers. Our one-two finish in Turkey last year was one of our most exciting races - and the memory of that result will doubtless spur on the whole team next weekend.”

Many of the teams will have upgrades for this race, with all the teams hoping to continue to close the gap to the early season favourites Red Bull.

Mercedes looked good in China with Rosberg leading for 14 laps, while McLaren claimed their first win of the season after some stunning overtaking manoeuvres by Lewis Hamilton.

Red Bull will hope to have made strides in regards to their so far unreliable KERS device which has particularly cost Mark Webber this season, whether their successful or not might prove pivotal, considering the Turkish track has several long straights.
