'If It's F1, It's Vital'
Newey considered future following Senna's death
Arguably the greatest mind in Formula One Adrian Newey has admitted that he nearly quit the sport following the death of Ayrton Senna.
Newey was chief designer at Williams in 1994 when the former 3-time F1 World champion joined the team.
Senna was expected to go on to claim the 1994 World championship despite a poor start to the season and was leading the San Marino Grand Prix at the time of the accident which claimed his life.
The Williams team were hit hard by the tragedy and Newey and Williams Engineering Director Patrick Head both considered their futures in the weeks following the accident.
'It was dreadful, Both Patrick Head and myself separately asked ourselves whether we wanted to continue in racing. Did we want to be involved in a sport where people can die in something we've created? Red Bull tech chief Adrian Newey told Autosport Magazine.
'Secondly, was the accident caused by something that broke through poor or negligent design?
'For the whole team it was incredibly difficult. I remember the day after the race was a bank holiday Monday and some of us came in to try and trawl though the data and work out what happened. They were dark weeks.'
