F1 teams cover good mileage in test

Following the Spanish Grand Prix all the teams, with the exception of Sauber, remained behind at Barcelona for a two day test session.

The testing ran on Tuesday 17th May and Wednesday 18th May.

On Tuesday, Pierre Gasly got behind the wheel for Toro Rosso, Alfonso Celis got to drive the Force India, Alex Lynn jumped into the Williams and Esteban Ocon drove for Renault.

For Mercedes, Ferrari, Red Bull Racing, McLaren, Haas and Manor they had more familiar faces inside the car pounding around the Barcelona track.

The fastest was Sebastian Vettel who after 103 laps for Ferrari set the fastest time of the day with a 1minute 23.220s.

'I think it is a unique chance having the opportunity right after the GP to test at the same track, more or less on the same conditions, Saturday [Qualifying] we struggled a bit so today we tried some stuff. We needed to have a good look at it, but this is not the only thing we were here for. For sure we tried to cover as much as possible in one day.' Vettel told formula1.com.

Nico Rosberg got within 0.117s of that time after his Mercedes completed 119 laps.

Jenson Button was just over half a second behind after his McLaren Honda completed 86 laps.

For the Wednesday session there were far fewer familiar faces on show.

Max Verstappen, the youngest race winner in Formula One history set the fastest lap of the day for Red Bull Racing with a 1minute 23.267s after completing 118 laps.

'For me personally it was good to have the opportunity to get even more comfortable with the car, I was able to try some new things and find ways to improve my performance. I learned a lot about the RB12 today, which is very, very positive. the 18-year-old told formula1.com.

Second fastest was Stoffel Vandoorne for McLaren Honda a whole 0.739s behind, with Pascal Wehrlein for Mercedes 0.878s adrift.

Most of the teams concentrated more on mileage on the second day with Manor completing the least with 91 laps and Mercedes the most with 133.

'We completed a big amount of laps, all of which are useful for both myself and the team. Tonight we will analyse all the data we've gathered and we will already be able to use this valuable information in the next events.' Daniil Kvyat of Toro Rosso said.
