'If It's F1, It's Vital'

Expect the unexpected in Monaco

Once again Formula One followers will be tuning into the events in Monaco this weekend without much of an idea on what is likely to happen!

In a year where one driver has won four of the opening five races, it's surprising that the season still feels unpredictable and exciting, but that is exactly what we have in F1 in 2011.

The Red Bull has clearly been the car of the year to date, while defending World champion Sebastian Vettel has dominated the early races, taking a 41 point lead into round six in Monte Carlo, would you bet on him making it five wins from six?

'This is a track where the driver can make a difference, But it's not always black and white.' Vettel told the BBC ahead of Thursday morning's first practice session.

'It is a long weekend, there might be things that are bothering you and you have to carry them through the weekend with you.

'The focus is very intense and you need to concentrate. It's very tight, there's not a lot of space and the higher up you can qualify will better your chances on Sunday.

'But we've seen some crazy races this year with the tyres and we don't know yet what to expect here or how many pit stops there will be.'

Pirelli have brought the soft tyre which has been used on a regular basis this season, but for this race it has been partnered up with the brand new super-soft tyre.

With the teams and drivers experiencing the super-soft tyres for the first time in a competitive environment this weekend, all the teams are hoping that their car will work on the new compound.

'I hope that our car works well this weekend and we are able to extract the most from those tyres.' McLaren's Lewis Hamilton said.

While McLaren team-mate Jenson Button speaking to Autosport Magazine added: 'We have not run the super soft for a long time, and we haven't run it with the existing tyres. But sure there will be a huge amount of degradation on the super soft.

'Strategy wise it is very difficult to work out what to do. To pick up the right strategy and get into race situation. Here it is going to be up in the air, you really have to think on your feet in the race, whether there is degradation or not.'
