Alonso backs Ferrari reshuffle

Following in the footsteps of the Williams team who have also announced a reshuffle amongst their team, Ferrari have made an immediate change to their technical department.

Aldo Costa has stood down from his position as technical director to 'take on new responsibilities within the company' according to a Ferrari press release on Tuesday.

Pat Fry will step into the role of director of the chassis side of development, Corrado Lanzone production and Luca Marmorini in charge of engines and electronics.

The restructure comes following meetings between team principal Stefano Domenicali and Ferrari president di Montezemolo last month and Fernando Alonso appears to fully back the decisions that have been made.

'We trust what the team does and we have full confidence in Stefano's decisions, and what is best for Ferrari. The only thing I can say is that I feel a very positive atmosphere today, between the track people, and it is a step to move forward and the team I'm sure.' Alonso told Autosport Magazine.

'All the decisions we make are for the best interests of the team and I am sure this is another one. I have full confidence in this decision and full confidence in the future.'

'We saw the difficult start to the season, we saw the difficult performance from the car, and we need a reaction, we need something to make some direction change, and this was maybe the best thing and hopefully in the future we can be more competitive.'

While Alonso still hasn't given up hope with challenging for the drivers title, Ferrari's hopes of winning the constructors champions are all but over.

Ferrari are currently third behind McLaren and 110 points behind leader Red Bull.
