Blue Touch Paper Ready To Be Lit In Monaco

Had a bit of business in Monaco yesterday so was able to fire this off to VF1.

As I walked down the hill towards the paddock where I knew most of the action would be, I passed the Ferrari franchise where the disgustingly rich buy their runabouts.

Got to the paddock. The Red Bull barge is ready now and in use

This is the McLaren motor-home (yep that's what they call them)

My eye was caught by a lovely young woman clutching something long and slender, which turned out to be a microphone, with a guy with a big camera. She's Russian and a star on Russian TV on their leading news channel. I won't try to spell her name but she agreed to let me take a photo for the lads at home. She was lovely to talk to as well. Travels all over the world covering the big sports events.

By now I was into the hot babe whirlpool and trotted along the quay to the commentators block and look what I came across (so to speak).

The girls are in the Miss Monaco GP contest but more later, started to walk up the track towards the swimming pool and soon realised my mistake, just total mayhem. Team lorries mixed with other traffic and pedestrians wondering in and out of them and cops blowing whistles for no apparent reason.

I decided to get back to the paddock and spotted Petrov trying to get through the traffic on his scooter. Sorry the pics a bit blurred but the little **** was trying to run me over!!

Then my first real break. At the commentators centre again was Adrian Newey! He'd just put his briefcase down and was signing things for the adoring fans. Seemed a nice unassuming man.

I thought maybe I should look for a different angle for you guys so started to go to an area where the public don't go so I knew security would be lower. On the way past the barge again and the press were in a frenzy. Couldn't see a thing so I climbed the railing and got this shot of Mark Webber!

I walked passed the motor homes towards the sea, where the media vans transmit the Grand Prix to the world and fell across a gem.

There were the Pirelli team preparing the tyres to be delivered to the pits.

Just amazing to see them working. Each tyre is checked and then stacked in separate team piles.

Fell into conversation with Greg & Simon

They'd left Spain on Monday and got here early Tuesday and started work immediately. The wets are already in the pits. Here's a couple of shots of the guys with Greg posing with the famous P Zero.

I said farewell to the guys and climbed up the ramparts to take a shot of the media vans for you.

Decided that was it so went back to Stars'n'Bars for a beer. But there was another hot babe all by herself!! Just had to talk to her. This is Claire-Louise and she is also in the Miss GP contest, she's from Wales. Great kid, had 10 minutes with her and a beer, hope she wins.

Had to go home. So started climbing up the hill to the station. On the way past the start/finish. It'll look a bit different to this on Sunday at 1.00 I think!

Personaly enjoyed the visit to Pirelli the most. To actually touch and pick up the tyres & to see how each of the hundreds of them are safety checked was a great insight. Maybe I'm getting a bit old!!?!!

The Pirelli ones are certainly interesting, but my favourites would have to be the girlies! Although seeing the Red Bull floating barge before and after was very good too!
