Vettel on pole again

Considering this was Sebastian Vettel's sixth pole in seven races, the defending World champion probably found himself quite surprised to find himself on pole position.

Red Bull usually are not very strong in Canada and most would have tipped McLaren for pole position and ultimately the win this weekend.

But McLaren will be slightly bewildered to find themselves behind both Red Bull's and Ferrari's on tomorrow's grid.

Lewis Hamilton will start fifth after his time of 1minute 13.565 seconds was 0.551 seconds slower than Vettel.

Jenson Button qualified seventh a further three-tenths down.

Ferrari overall will be pleased with second and third on the grid, they had threatened this sort of performance during Friday practice and probably ended up being slightly disappointed to not be on pole position themselves.

Felipe Massa threatened to beat team-mate Fernando Alonso in Q3 until the final runs, when eventually Massa qualified third with Alonso second.

Vettel's Red Bull team-mate Mark Webber qualified fourth, while at Mercedes Nico Rosberg once again out qualified team-mate Michael Schumacher.

Rosberg will start sixth, with the seven-time F1 champion eighth.

The two Renault's of Nick Heidfeld and Vitaly Petrov completed the top 10 shoot-out.

At the other end of the grid, Jerome D'Ambrosio qualified outside the 107% time which had been set at 1minute 18.989seconds. The Virgin driver was another half a second slower.

However the stewards have felt sorry for him and allowed him to race.
