'If It's F1, It's Vital'

F1 championship not over says Alonso & Button

With Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel now 60 points clear in the championship race after the first 7 races, many believe the title has already been wrapped up by last seasons champion.

Our VF1 front page poll pretty much sums up the feeling of many of the Formula One fans around the World.

When asked Has Sebastian Vettel wrapped up this seasons championship? 67% voted Yes, with just 33% believing that it was still to be decided.

With 12 races to go there obviously are enough points to make up the deficit, but realistically can it happen?

It would have to be a monumental cock up for Red Bull to throw it away now, but McLaren's Jenson Button, Vettel's closest rival believes it's possible and even Ferrari's Fernando Alonso in fifth a whopping 92 points behind still hasn't given up the fight.

'We've proved we can challenge and beat Vettel and we know we can fight for the world title.' Button told the BBC.

'I wouldn't say that winning in Montreal has given me extra motivation, because I was already totally committed, but I think it will help to sharpen the focus and conviction of everyone in the team,' the 2009 F1 World champion said.

Ferrari's Alonso who is a former two-time champion believes a few slip-ups from Vettel and the challenge will be back on. 'No, the title is not gone because mathematically it is still alive,' he told Autosport Magazine.

'if you win two races, and Vettel retires, the gap can close a lot.

'But it is true it is not in our hands, so we just need to concentrate race by race, try to do our best race-by-race, be on podium and try to win some grands prix.

'It up to them [Vettel & Red Bull] to do some mistakes but, if not, they have a very good position in the championship.'
