Button set to stay at McLaren
McLaren are expected to activate an automatic extension clause in Jenson Button's contract.
The 2009 Formula One World Champion signed a two-year contract with McLaren when he left the then Brawn Grand Prix team after clinching his first ever championship.
That deal is set to expire at the end of the 2011 season, but as part of the initial deal, a one-year option was added in favour of McLaren, so that if they wanted to keep him, his new contract would be extended automatically to the end of the 2012 campaign.
The BBC has reported that both McLaren and Jenson Button are in favour of this happening, despite speculation suggesting that Button has recently held talks with Ferrari muddying the waters.
Button may actually be offered a brand new and improved deal over the next few weeks, with McLaren keen to keep the all-English pairing of Button and team-mate Lewis Hamilton happy.
This could prove to be either an improved deal for Button in terms of monetary value, or an extended multi-year deal to keep the 31-year-old at McLaren beyond 2012.
Team-mate Lewis Hamilton who has been linked with a switch to Red Bull is also contracted to McLaren until the end of the 2012 season.
