'If It's F1, It's Vital'
Formula One hold talks with Channel 4?
With speculation rising that the BBC will not renew it's current broadcasting rights for Formula One, a report has suggested that F1 have held talks with Channel 4.
The Evening Standard reported last week that preliminary talks have already got under way.
Channel 4 sees the addition of Formula One to its channel as a good way of appealing to the young male demographic and obviously it's a way of boosting advertising revenue.
Channel 4 does have money to invest into improving the channels coverage of sport and films, but whether they will have the money to compete with ITV who are also likely to make a move for F1 again is unclear.
Sky of course are also interested but thankfully FOM and FOTA appear to remain determined to keep F1 on free-to-air TV.
Everyone of course hopes that Formula One will remain on the BBC, their coverage is excellent, every practice session is live via the red button, qualifying and the race is live in HD, further analysis of the race is available via the red button after the race and on its website.
It's difficult to see any other channel being able to offer the coverage the BBC can offer and of course with the huge bonus of being ad free.
Lets just hope the speculation isn't right and the BBC will renew the deal and keep F1 for many years to come.
