McLaren & Virgin agree technical partnership

Following the successful technical partnership with Force India, McLaren have entered into a second partnership, this time with Virgin Racing.

Fondly known as one of the newbie teams on the Formula One grid, Virgin Racing only entered F1 in 2010 and has so far competed in just 27 races.

The teams highest finish is 14th, a position they first achieved last season in Malaysia and Japan and once again this season in Australia and Canada.

With the vastly different resources available to the the new teams as opposed to the big teams such as Red Bull, Ferrari and McLaren, Marussia Virgin Racing can usually only hope to beat Hispania when it comes to race day, but that could be set to change in the not so distant future.

With this technical partnership with McLaren, Virgin Racing will now be able to access McLaren's wind tunnel, simulator, rigs, and fitness programmes.

While McLaren staff will also be placed within the Virgin Racing group.

'Our technical partnership with McLaren is very exciting indeed. McLaren is one of the most prestigious and successful marques in grand prix racing history, with an enviable record of success over many years. Virgin Racing CEO Andy Webb told Autosport Magazine.

He added:'We can benefit enormously from McLaren's far-reaching techniques and capabilities and I have no doubt that this partnership will see us take the technical steps necessary to make a significant leap forwards.

This has to be seen a a major coup for a team that has yet to score a single Formula One point, a fact that is likely to change pretty quickly once McLaren begins to have an influence on the team.
