'If It's F1, It's Vital'

Kubica recovery still on course

It's been a couple of months since we heard an update on injured Renault driver Robert Kubica but thankfully it is all good news.

The 26-year-old crashed a Skoda Fabia during the opening stage of the Ronde di Andora rally in Italy back in February.

His car crashed into a barrier which penetrated his car leaving him with a partially severed right hand and fractures to his right leg and arm.

Many wondered whether the severity of the accident would have a negative impact on the Polish driver and whether it would stop him from wanting to make a comeback, but thankfully that hasn't proved to be the case.

'I don't have any memory of the accident, and I am just aware of the consequences it had. So, to me, it's as if it never happened,' Kubica told Autosport Magazine.

In the days following his accident, the Pole underwent three operations and was put in an induced coma to help aid his recovery, it had been hoped that he wouldn’t require any further surgery, but in early March, Kubica had a fourth operation to help the mobility of his elbow.

After a month of rehabilitation the Renault driver underwent his final large operation which was to remove adhesions affecting the functionality of his right forearm and elbow muscles.

'Physically, I am still a bit weak but my general condition is quite good, My weight has now returned to its normal level and for a few weeks I've been able to walk without help. All in all I feel pretty well.

'I am satisfied with how things are proceeding. The improvement is in line with the expectations, and luckily there are no complications that could affect the recovery time. It is still too early to have a clear picture for the timing of my return but the important thing is the final outcome not the hurry.'
Kubica added.
