'If It's F1, It's Vital'

All set for a quailying thriller?

It might be cold over in Germany, but the action is certainly hotting up on the track!

Red Bull and Ferrari's Fernando Alonso look set to battle it out for pole position this afternoon but McLaren have improved and could also be in contention!

Fernando Alonso topped the times in FP1 ahead of Mark Webber's Red Bull who then went on to top FP2 with Alonso second.

2011 Formula One Drivers championship leader Sebastian Vettel was third fastest, three-tenths of a second slower in both sessions.

Ferrari's Felipe Massa was fourth in both sessions 0.7 down in FP1 and 0.6 down in FP2.

McLaren were over a second down in both sessions on Friday with Lewis Hamilton over half a second faster than team-mate Jenson Button in both sessions.

The McLaren's were looking well off the pace and seemingly completely out of contention this weekend, but they both enjoyed some improvements on Saturday morning with Hamilton and Button nudging ahead of Massa for fourth and fifth in FP3.

Their overall lap time was also improved with Hamilton's time over a second faster than any time McLaren could set on Friday.

But while McLaren kicked on, so did Alonso and Red Bull with firstly Mark Webber setting the fastest time, before Sebastian Vettel set the fastest lap towards the end of the session.

Vettel, Webber and Alonso were separated by just 0.222 seconds with Red Bull completing more laps.

One point of interest could be that Alonso set his time on his first fast lap on the soft tyres, while Red Bull had a couple of attempts to get up to speed. This could be crucial in qualifying if it's affected by rain.

It's certainly set to be very interesting.
