Hamilton takes penalty on the chin

With the resurgence of the McLaren team to return to form, we have also recently seen a more mature Lewis Hamilton when it comes to his comments in the press.

His attitude now is far removed from the frustrated kid in Monaco who was blaming everyone and everything for his poor result on a race weekend that he thought he could win.

This Sunday again Hamilton had the car to win, but a decision to gamble to switch to the wet intermediate tyre when it had only just started raining on one area of the track ended that chance.

Then once a drive through penalty had been awarded for recovery the car in front of traffic Hamilton's weekend was over.

“Big congratulations to Jenson. He pushed me hard and he deserved to win the race. I felt sorry for the team that we didn’t get a one-two, but at least one of us got the victory. The car felt very good to drive today. I think the cooler conditions helped us, but the team has done a fantastic job to get us where we are. We’ve now won two races in the space of a week, which is a great way to enter the summer break.'

'I’m disappointed in myself for spinning. I had to do a doughnut to get myself facing the right way and that forced Paul [di Resta] onto the grass, which is why I got the drive-through penalty. I’ve apologised to Paul and I’ll put the penalty behind me and move on to the next race.” Hamilton told formula1.com on Sunday.

Perhaps the fact that in the end the drive through penalty didn't have much of an affect on the race with Hamilton soon getting back past Massa and Webber for fourth, but it's still a far cry from his poor Ali G joke in Monaco.
