'If It's F1, It's Vital'

Vettel will not cruise to the world championship

Sebastian Vettel may have had the Formula One Drivers World championship sewn up for months, but the German driver will not simply cruise to the title and collect the points required.

We saw evidence of this at the last race in Monza where Vettel pulled off a breathtaking manoeuvre around the outside of Alonso's Ferrari, a move which helped him win the Italian Grand Prix.

Vettel put two wheels on the grass and risked a collision by fighting for the lead on track rather than biding his time and possibly gaining the place via pit strategy.

Some would argue that he is trying to silence the critics who claimed he wasn't a good 'racer', while others would say that with a 112-point lead over second place Fernando Alonso, his lead just gives him the cushion which enables him to take risks, as it's highly unlikely even with a couple of DNFs that Vettel will not go on to claim back-to-back titles.

'Sebastian doesn't want to cruise to the world championship, he really wants to earn it,' Red Bull chief technical officer Adrian Newey told Autosport Magazine.

'What's so impressive about him is that he very rarely makes the same mistake twice, He learns and he keeps confounding the critics.

'Last year, people were saying he's great if he gets out in the lead but he can't overtake people. People won't be saying that after the last few races.'

Sebastian Vettel can mathematically clinch the 2011 Formula One World Championship this weekend.

After Sunday's race there will only be 125-points available. That means that if Vettel wins, Alonso has to finish on the podium to take the title chase to Suzuka, or if Alonso doesn't finish in the top 10, Vettel will simply require a podium to take the title.
