Title not won yet says Vettel

The current Formula One World champion requires just a single point from the remaining five races of the season to successfully defend his crown.

But while it's highly unlikely that Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel will not clinch back-to-back titles, he refused to celebrate the achievement in Singapore.

'I feel capable but I still have to do it, Obviously it should not be a problem but it's over when it's over and not before.

'Statistics are on our side, but this story has to wait to be closed.' Vettel told the BBC.

With Vettel winning the race in Singapore, the German driver had given himself a chance of winning the Formula One title with five races remaining.

Ferrari's Fernando Alonso required a podium finish to stay in contention and he finished fourth, while McLaren's Jenson Button had to finish second, which is what the Brit managed, so for a few moments at least, Vettel didn't know if he had done enough, although he probably had an inkling considering Button had been second for the majority of the race.

'Crossing the line I didn't know whether it was enough or not - a little bit like Abu Dhabi (last year).

'I didn't know where everyone had to finish.

Going into the Japanese Grand Prix the mathematics are a lot simpler and the Red Bull driver will know that all that is required is a top ten finish to clinch his second Formula One World Championship.

He concluded: 'Obviously for the next one I am smart enough to work it out myself.'

A finish in the top ten will be enough in Suzuka to take the title and for someone who has 14 of his last 33 races, no-one will bet against him winning the title in style in two weeks time.
