'If It's F1, It's Vital'

Hamilton penalised again

If Lewis Hamilton had collected as many podium finishes as drive thru penalties this season he would be rivalling Sebastian Vettel for the 2011 F1 drivers world title.

Instead he is fifth and struggling behind his team-mate Jenson Button in the standings.

In Singapore, once again Hamilton was awarded with a drive thru penalty after a racing incident with Ferrari's Felipe Massa.

Hamilton had attempted an overtaking manoeuvre on the inside of Massa, but aborted the move too late, slightly clipping Massa's rear wheel, very few people would argue that Hamilton wasn't at fault. But while other racing incidents involving Nico Rosberg on two occasions were not penalised by race stewards, Lewis Hamilton was.

Perhaps the penalty was awarded because Massa suffered a puncture from the incident which heavily affected his race, while Rosberg didn't put any other driver at a direct disadvantage.

But once again the inconsistency in decisions has got people in the paddock, the media and the spectators watching on television all talking.

'Lewis didn't deserve a drive-through penalty. It's a racing incident as far as I'm concerned.' a heavily biased McLaren team boss Martin Whitmarsh told the BBC after the race.

Whilst on the other end of the spectrum: 'he could've caused a big accident. He's paying for it and he doesn't understand that.

'It's important the FIA study this and penalise him every time.'
an equally biased Massa said on Sunday.

Massa also approached Hamilton in the media area after the race, pulling Hamilton around by the shoulder to sarcastically give him the thumbs up and tell him 'Good job, bro.', Hamilton simply responded by telling the Brazilian 'Don't touch me, man..

Each race has different stewards, so it can't be stewards picking on Hamilton. Once again he was lucky to only get a drive through penalty. Until some real action is taken he will try to barge his way past the other drivers.

Why was he lucky to only get a drive thru? Technically the drive thru is the correct penalty so why would he get a harsher penalty when Nico Rosberg's infringements were overlooked?
