Hamilton given grid penalty

McLaren's Lewis Hamilton and Sauber's Sergio Perez have both been handed three place grid penalties for Sunday's Indian Grand Prix.

The duo were both found guilty of ignoring caution flags in Friday's first practice session.

Both in fact set their fastest times of the session whilst double yellow flags were being waved when Pastor Maldonado's Williams car stopped at turn 16 with an engine problem.

The race stewards including Johnny Herbert, called Hamilton for a meeting after the session and Hamilton accepted his penalty.

'I was engaging the DRS when the yellow flags were on and you're not allowed to, I went in there and put my hands up and said I accept whatever penalty I get and they gave me one. Hamilton told the BBC.

A dejected Hamilton continued: 'I don't have any feelings. It is what it is. I'm a bit frustrated with myself as it's my fault - as usual.

'I just have to do what I can from wherever I qualify tomorrow. I have less hopes of pole - but tomorrow could be a different day.'

Hamilton's time of 1minute 26.836 was 0.580 seconds faster than double World champion Sebastian Vettel who was second fastest in the session, with Red Bull team-mate Mark Webber third and Hamilton's McLaren team-mate Jenson Button in fourth, 1.558 seconds slower.

Ferrari's Felipe Massa topped the timing charts in the second practice session, the Brazilian set a time of 1minute 25.706seconds, narrowly beating Sebastian Vettel's Red Bull by 0.088seconds. Fernando Alonso, Lewis Hamilton and Mark Webber all finished within a second of the Ferrari's time, with Button sixth fastest a second off the pace.
