'If It's F1, It's Vital'
Third team opts to change name
Following in the heels of Team Lotus and Renault, Virgin Racing have officially lodged a request to change their name for next season.
The Formula One Commission will vote on the proposed changes and the teams will require the backing of 18 of the 26 members.
This season has seen the confusing battle between Team Lotus, who have been known as Lotus and Group Lotus, who have been known as Renault despite strong Lotus branding on the car.
Formula One are keen to avoid this confusion in the future and so are unlikely to oppose the proposals which will see an end to the confusion with Team Lotus becoming Caterham and for Renault to become Lotus.
The Formula One Commission will also have no real reason to strongly oppose the proposal from Virgin Racing, who want to change their name to Marussia.
Marussia is the teams Russian sportscar partner, despite the switch in branding, Virgin appear content with their role and will remain involved in the team next season. But the team want to revise their name due to the Russian companies larger involvement in the team.
