'If It's F1, It's Vital'

Ben Edwards joins BBC F1 team

A familiar voice will be replacing Martin Brundle for BBC's coverage of Formula One next season.

Ben Edwards who used to commentate for Eurosport when Formula One was shown on the satellite channel with John Watson, is a well known voice amongst motorsport fans in the United Kingdom.

After Eurosport lost the television rights to Formula One in 1996, Edwards was the voice of Champ Car racing for British fans until 2001.

In 2002 he began working with Sky Sports for A1 Grand Prix and had a brief spell with the F1 Digital+ channel.

He has also been doing ITV's coverage of British Touring Cars for the past nine years.

The BBC have yet to announce the move officially, but Edwards and other members of the BBC F1 team, have already confirmed that he will be partnering David Coulthard in the commentary box next season via Twitter.

'So, it looks as though it's really happening. I will be the BBC F1 commentator in 2012 and I can't wait!

'It took a while for things to be sorted, and thanks to ITV for being so understanding. Really looking forward to working with the crew.
Edwards wrote.

BBC F1 presenter Jake Humphrey tweeted: 'Delighted to welcome Ben Edwards into the #bbcf1 commentary box with DC for 2012. Big fan, great commentator!!

Lee McKenzie added: 'Delighted to be reunited with Ben Edwards next season as he joins the BBC and steps into the commentary booth.

While Martin Brundle, who has left the BBC for Sky Sports wrote: 'I'm pleased Ben Edwards has got my old BBCF1 job. He will work well with DC. Nice guy too, see you at the GPs Ben

This morning, after gaining over 9,000 followers overnight, Edwards added: 'Wow, thanks for the response everyone. Followers numbers going up like revs on an F1 car!

Don't think I know the fella. Then again, don't think he knows me!
The Fear
Martin hard to beat, but as long as Ben Edwards is not biased towards the McLaren team he should be okay. Meaning that I will watch with mute, if he is. DC is unbiased and very knowledgeable re cars and drivers.
F1only
Have you actually listened to DC? He is completely biased towards the Red Bull team which is hardly surprising considering his connections.
