'If It's F1, It's Vital'
Di Montezemolo warns against diluted F1
Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo has welcomed Formula One's move into different international markets such as the United States of America, but has warned against the dilution of the sport.
In recent years Formula One has made its first moves into Abu Dhabi, Korea and India and in the next couple of years are set to hold an event in Russia and return to the USA.
There has also recently been speculation regarding moves to South Africa, Mexico and Argentina in future seasons.
But while the new markets are exciting for both fans and teams and more importantly also bring financial benefits, the new races are usually at the expense of races in Europe and next season just eight of the twenty scheduled races will be held in Formula One's traditional territory of Europe.
'Maintaining the importance of Europe in Formula 1 is very important, It's good to see F1 in India, in Russia, in Korea, in the Middle East and of course in the United States, but we must not lose our tradition and history in Europe, particularly when we see that some of the new circuits are not as good as Spa, for example. Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo has told Autosport Magazine.
'We have to be careful not to dilute the image of Formula 1.'
