'If It's F1, It's Vital'
No issues for Mercedes
Mercedes GP driver Nico Rosberg has dismissed the idea that the team will be playing catch-up over the winter following the announcement that they will miss the first test session.
The Mercedes team are heading into their first winter season under the new technical structure which includes additions Geoff Willis and Aldo Costa. Rosberg is confident that the new set-up will be of huge benefit to the team and he has backed the decision to skip the Jerez test on February 7-10 in favour of further time to design and develop the car.
'It is just the choice that they have made and I am happy with that,' Rosberg told Autosport Magazine.
'It is the compromise between testing early enough and having enough time to develop. And they need to find a middle way - and they have decided that that is the best way to do it.'
'With the way the factory is going now, I am confident, This year we would not have managed to do the first race if we had run the car that late, but with the way the factory is now optimised, I am confident that we can quite happily make it happen and the car can race very soon after the first test - with just a few bits and pieces that need to be sorted out. That shows already that the team is a big improvement.'
