'If It's F1, It's Vital'

Senna family ecstatic

The Senna family are said to be ecstatic after the news was broken that Bruno Senna would be racing for the Williams team in 2012.

18 years ago three-time Formula One World Champion Ayrton Senna, possibly the greatest driver in history, died at the San Marino Grand Prix behind the wheel of a Williams.

On Tuesday it was announced that his nephew, Bruno Senna would be replacing fellow Brazilian Rubens Barrichello at the team.

Obviously there is a lot of emotions regarding the Senna family and the Williams team, but Bruno has revealed that the family are delighted.

'I believe that things happen in life for a reason, but there is no negativity from my family. They are thrilled about it. Senna told Autosport Magazine.

'Everybody is ecstatic; I spoke to my grandparents [Ayrton's parents] before I spoke to my mother. My grandmother was so happy, and my grandfather had a great laugh. In the family everyone is smiling, everyone has worked hard for it, and it is a family business. We have a great unity and everyone is super happy.'

Bruno to a certain extent has always lived in the shadow of his Uncle's legacy. During his time in British Formula Three, right through to GP2 and Formula One.

That intensity might now be magnified at Williams, the team where Senna raced his final few Grand Prix's and the team that has worn the Senna logo since his tragic death in 1994.

'It is something that has been constant in my career, I've been in the spotlight and it hasn't been a problem. It has made me learn the hard way about how to cope with pressure, and I've been able to deal with it. Last year there was a great deal of pressure with the circumstance, and in some ways it went the right way.'

Meanwhile the Senna movie, Directed and produced by Asif Kapadia and Manish Pandey has been nominated for a BAFTA in three categories.

Those categories are:

Outstanding British film

Best Documentary

Best Editing

Pandey wrote on Twitter: "Senna given 3 @BAFTA nominations! Can't remember a doc that was as honoured. Thank you to the British Academy."
