The race is on for Austin

The Circuit of the Americas, the scheduled home of the United States Grand Prix for the next ten years is on schedule for their inaugural race in November.

At an estimated cost of around $350 million, the Austin Grand Prix has had its problems.

Formula One has not returned to the States since the Indianapolis event was dropped from the calendar after the 2007 race.

However after initial doubts, the suspension of construction and various warnings from F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone, it does look highly likely that Formula One will return to the United States of America in 2012.

Senior representatives from the Circuit of the Americas are in the UK this week to update Bernie Ecclestone on the progress of the 3.4-mile track construction and he hopefully should be pleased.

'The race is on. Construction is happening six days a week. The paddock buildings are being topped off, work on the main grandstand has started and we are looking at mid-August for completion [of the track surface].' Circuit of the Americas chief marketing and sales officer Geoff Moore told Autosport Magazine.

Track bosses are hoping to attract around 120,000 spectators for the race, which should act as a platform for Formula One to really hit the American market in 2013, when the US hosts a second race on the F1 calendar in New York City.

The Grand Prix of America, is set to have a 3.2-mile street circuit lay-out by the Hudson River in New Jersey, with the Manhattan skyline in the backdrop creating a truly stunning location.
